Hasn Ibn-e Sho’bah Harrāni

 

Birth:

Abū Muhammad, Hasan ibn-e Ali Ibn-e Husain Ibn-e Sho’bah Harrāni Halabi, was one of the out standing scientific figures, and a brilliant Faqih (Jurisprudent) in the fourth century of Hegira. He was one of Sheikh Sadūq’s (past away in 381 H.) coevals, and has narrated from Muhammad Ibn-e Humām (past away in 336 H.). He also is accounted one of Sheikh Mufīd’s (past away in 413 H.) mentors. Hasan was brought up in a family, affectionate and fond of the infallible household of the holy prophet of Islām (Ahl-ul bayt A.S.), and from the beginning, his heart was full of cordial love toward Muhammad and his infallible progeny (A.S.). He was born in Harrān, which was one of Syrian villages around the city of Halab. Halab was a large city and an important scientific center of that time. This city presented many great scholars and faqihs to the world of islām, and Hasan Ibn-e Ali Ibn-e Sho’bah is one of those brilliant figures.

 

Personality:

Abū Muhammad, Hasan Ibn-e Sho’bah, was one of the brilliant fuqahā of Shi’a in his time. His is accounted one of the great Shi’a narrators. His writings received the most attention by great scholars immediately after compilation. His narrations are printed in great collections of Shi’a narrations, in the books as: Wasail-ush-shi’a and Bihā-rul Anwār.

Sheikh Hurr-e āmeli’s sayings:

Sheikh Hurr-e āmeli in his book ‘Amal-ul Āmāl’ cites about him “ Abū Muhammad hasan Ibn-e Ali Ibn-e Sho’bah, is a virtuous scholar and a great narrator”.

 Allāmah Majlisi’s sayings:

  Allamah Majlisi cites about him: “ His book ‘Tuhaf-ul Uqūl’ is the best reason for his virtue, Knowledge and lofty position”. 

Allāmah Khānsāri’s sayings:

Allāmah Khānsāri the author of the book  ‘Rowdhāt-ul Jannāt’ cites about him: “ The great narrator, Hasan Ibn-e Ali ibn-e Husain Ibn-e Sho’bah Harrāni Halabi, is a sage Faqih and a well-known figure. He has written a book, which all Shi’a believers and Fuqahā rely on it”.

 

Teacher:      

Abu Ali Muhammad Ibn-e Humām-e Baghdādi (past away in 336 H.) can be accounted as ibn-e Sho’bah’s mentor.

 

Pupils:

The most important scientific figures among his students, who shine like glittering stars, are Sheikh-e Mufīd and Muhammad ibn-e Muhammad Ibn-e No’mān (past away in 413 H.).

 

Compilations:   

One of his master peaces is the book ‘Tuhaf-ul Uqul’ which has received the most attention by Shi’a scholars. Perhaps we can also relate the book ‘At-tahīss’ to him, because he narrates this book fron ābū ali Muhammad Ibn-e Humām , but some scholars believe that it is his own compilation.
