ABWA Official Website – The closing ceremony of the Iraq section of the “Commemoration Conference for Ayatollah Mirza Mohammad Taghi Shirazi” was held on Sunday, December 11, 2022, in Karbala.

At the beginning of the ceremony which was held at the Sayed al-Osia Complex in Karbala, some non-Iraqi participants spoke on behalf of the foreign delegations present at the ceremony.

Then Mr. Abd al-Amir Al- Qurayshi, the head of the Karbala Center for Studies and Research, which organized the conference, gave his closing speech.

While expressing his gratitude to those who collaborated with the Karbala Center for Studies and Research in holding this conference, especially Ayatollah Sheikh Abd al-Mahdi Karbalai, the Sharia Custodian of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (a.s.), he appreciated the researchers who participated from different countries in the conference with their research.

Warning that “Islamic civilization is in danger”, the secretary of the Iraq section of the “Commemoration Conference for Ayatollah Mirza Mohammad Taghi Shirazi”, continued, “

But the AhlulBayt of the Prophet Muhammad (p.b.u.h) and the Immaculate Imams (a.s.) have left us a legacy with which we can confront any deviant civilization.

“Marjaiat is the continuation of the path of the Immaculate Imams (a.s.),” he said, “Our Maraje’ (sources of emulation) are the bearers of knowledge and the natural extension of conveying the message of prophethood and Imamate.”

“The diligence of Maraje’ and ulama should be conveyed to those who do not know about them. We held this conference to let the new generation know about the work of the previous generation,” al-Qurayshi said.

Referring to the atrocities that have been inflicted on the AhlulBayt (a.s.) followers throughout history, including the killing of thousands of them in different parts of the world, he added, “During British colonialism, the AhlulBayt (a.s.) followers in Iraq were even banned from learning to read and write!”

While severely criticizing those who spread negative propaganda against the clergy and Marjaiat, this Iraqi writer and intellectual said, “They say that our problems are caused by turbans (the clergy)! But the turban has always been the defender of the people and the country; the turban has always sought the interests of the nation. It was the turban that established the new government of Iraq.”

“In that situation, Ayatollah Sayed Mohammad Kazem Yazdi issued a fatwa on the necessity of confronting the British occupation, and Ayatollah Mirza Mohammad Taghi Shirazi led the revolution against the occupiers. If it was not for Mirza Shirazi’s fatwa, this government, and this country would not exist today,” he continued.

Referring to the bitter truth that “now some are seeking to distort and disturb Iraq’s great history,” he stated, “Once in Iraq, Mohammad Mahdi Al-Jawaheri, who has been called the greatest Arab poet and is known as the national poet of Iraq, was fired as a teacher in the Iraqi Ministry of Education on the charge that he has Iranian citizenship!”

“Today, we should introduce the works and activities of our dignitaries, who have left us this great civilizational heritage for us, to the new generations,” emphasized the director of the Scientific Research Department of the Holy Shrine of Imam Hussain (a.s.).

Then in his speech, while presenting a short report on the work of the Karbala Center for Study and Research, the head of the center said, “Many activities are carried out in this center, including compiling the history of Karbala and the history of the activities of the seminary of the city.”

“In my opinion, the seminary of Karbala was established in the second century AH, that is since Uthman bin Said settled in Karbala. Over the centuries, this seminary has trained great ulama such as Sheikh Ibrahim Kafa’ami, Allameh Wahid Behbahani, Ibn Fahd Hilli, Sharif al-Ulama Mazandarani, etc.,” he added.

Pointing out that so far three conferences have been held to commemorate Wahid Behbahani, Ibn Fahad Hilli and Mirza Mohammad Taghi Shirazi, and two more conferences will be held, the secretary of the Series of International Conferences for the Revival of the Heritage of the Ulama of Karbala stated, “The 4th and 5th Conferences of the Revival of the Heritage of the Ulama of Karbala to be held to commemorate Sheikh Jafar Kashif al-Ghita and Sheikh Yusof Al-Bahrani.”

“Some argue that Ayatollah Kashif al-Ghita was from Najaf, not Karbala,” Abd al-Amir al-Qurayshi explained, “But it should be said that Sheikh Jafar Kashif al-Ghita was born in Karbala and grew up in the city. That is, he was born in Karbala and was educated in the seminary of the city by Allameh Wahid Behbahani.”

Regarding the other programs of his respective center, this Iraqi intellectual expressed, “In cooperation with the seminaries of Iraq and Iran, God willing, we will also hold a conference about the Baghdad Seminary, that is, the seminary that Imam Hassan Askari (a.s.) established and dignitaries like Sheikh Kulayni and Ibn Junaid were educated there.”

After the speech of the head of the Karbala Center for Studies and Research, certificates of appreciation were presented to the winners and researchers.
