Night of Destiny night of unpretentious servants/combining selfishness and godliness impossible: Ayatollah Ramazani

At dawn on Saturday, April 23, 2022, the vigil of the Night of Destiny (Laylat al-Qadr) on twenty-first night of the holy month of Ramadan, and the anniversary of the martyrdom of Imam Ali (a.s.) in the Hashemi Mosque in Rasht, Ayatollah Ramazani stated, “On the night of destiny, we must ask God to increase our capacity and grant us as much as our capacity.”

Pointing out that the Night of Destiny is one of the nights in which man can increase his capacity, the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly added, “Night of Destiny is a divine feast hosted by angels on behalf of God, and we are its guests.”

“In the holy month of Ramadan, whether we like it or not, we are taken to the divine feast,” he clarified, “Everyone enjoys and benefits this feast to the best of his ability.”

“We must increase our understanding because there is no obstacle from God. Rather, we must remove the obstacles that exist on our part,” Ayatollah Ramazani noted, stating that our view of ourselves should be accurate and far from superficiality.

“On the Night of Destiny, we must first seek forgiveness from those to whom we owe, and then ask God for forgiveness. It is not possible on the Night of Destiny, we say “O God! Forgive us” while slandering others and talking behind their backs,” he clarified.

“Just saying “O God! Forgive us” does not forgive the sin of slander. These very (spiritual) obstacles hinder us to progress,” added the representative of the people of Gilan in the Assembly of Leadership Experts.

“We must distance ourselves from the superficial and ordinary view of ourselves and religion and pay attention to the inside. Many people are preoccupied with superficial matters. However, just praying does not lead to deep understanding,” he emphasized.

“The main factors for believing in God are three things: Ma’arefat (understanding), piety and self-cultivation, and sincerity. There are three obstacles to believing in God: ignorance, moral vices, and polytheism,” he stated.

“Some also point to other factors that lead to belief in God, such as Dhikr, worship, recourse, and service to others. While all these factors fall within the three categories mentioned,” continued the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly.

“Types of Ma’arefat (understanding) include sensory understanding, intellectual understanding and heart understanding. Everyone knows God in some way, and the best understanding and knowledge is the heart understanding,” he said.

“There is everything we want at the feast of the holy month of Ramadan,” Ayatollah Ramazani clarified, “The Night of Destiny is the night of the Guardian of God. That is, this night is the most accurate, best, and most virtuous time to communicate with Imam Mahdi (a.s.) so that we can benefit from his prayers.”

Pointing out that in order to achieve belief in God, man must consider himself a servant of God and should not be arrogant, the representative of the people of Gilan in the Assembly of Leadership Experts said, “He who is arrogant will not believe in God; the one who is arrogant is not supported by (God), instead, the humble people are supported (by God) on these nights.”

“Heart understanding causes human life to become a faithful life with wisdom and love. We must maintain the love that is placed in us,” he added.

“We must put aside egoism because it is not possible to have combine selfishness and godliness simultaneously,” said Ayatollah Ramazani, pointing out that in order to gain godliness, one must be in the great field of jihad and struggle.

“On the Nights of Destiny, everyone should speak honestly with God,” the Secretary-General of the AhlulBayt (a.s.) World Assembly said, “In these virtuous nights, we must train our souls through self-cultivation and refinement through heart understanding.”

“What is valuable to God is humility,” he said, referring to the story of Prophet Jonah (a.s.), and that the Prophet’s crying, praying and glorifying God saved him from the whale’s mouth.

“All worldly possessions are sedition and temptation,” Ayatollah Ramazani emphasized, “In the Hereafter, no title, wealth, comrade or friendship will accompany man.”

“From prison in this world, one can be released on bail. But in the Hereafter, no one will help man. In the Hereafter, only God Almighty will help man and deal with us according to our deeds,” concluded the representative of the people of Gilan in the Assembly of Experts.
